Why Instagram Still Matters for Content Creators
As an indie music producer, blogger, and gamer, creating content is an essential skill I continuously refine. It might not be my favourite activity, but it’s a crucial part of being discovered. If you resonate with my experience, know that showcasing your talent online can open doors.
I may not consider myself an expert, but I’ve learned valuable lessons along the way that I want to share with you.
As of January 2025, Instagram boasts 2 billion active monthly users and 500 million active daily users. That scale is impressive, especially in a world of over 6 billion people. These figures represent immense opportunities for engagement and audience growth that are hard to overlook.
Social media allows for the rapid spread of information, and its reach is determined by how quickly content appears on your feed. Trends emerge from common actions of users, and while virality often seems accidental, there’s a formula behind it. A song doesn’t go viral by sheer luck; it’s influenced by timing, emotional connection, relatability, and more.
Chasing virality isn’t the goal. As music producers, we see that reach isn’t dead; it’s just taking new forms. Getting discovered on platforms like this is vital for creators of all types. You don’t need to be an expert or enrol in extensive courses. If you have the time for that, great! But for many, opting for blog posts and YouTube videos offers a more relatable way to gain knowledge.
The debate among social media marketers about Instagram’s algorithm is ongoing. Some believe that consistency and relevance are key, while others claim that frequent posting alone keeps you on the radar. Ultimately, it’s subjective, and there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. You should find a posting rhythm that feels right for you. Content creation should be enjoyable, not a chore.
Aim to post a few times a week, but avoid making it feel like a routine obligation. Share because you want to be discovered, to cultivate an audience, and to nurture a loyal base of fans. Remember, growth takes patience, effort, and time—there are no shortcuts.
**Discovery through Reels, Explore, and Search**: Understand the kind of posts that resonate beyond simple announcements or seasonal discounts. Instagram values content that is relevant, engaging, and purposeful. Intent should always guide your posting strategy.
For instance, when building a fan base for Aeonphoneyx Official, I’ve started with around 58 followers after a year. My goal is to grow to 500 followers. Mathematically, that translates to roughly 46 followers per month. However, gaining followers on Instagram isn’t always a straightforward equation. The numbers fluctuate, and there are no guarantees.
Understanding Instagram’s Algorithm (Without Overthinking It)
Content That Triggers Discovery:
– Reels
– Saves & Shares
– Watch time over likes
Your content must cater to your audience. If you’re unsure what they enjoy, don’t hesitate to experiment with different types of posts. Until you hit “publish,” you won’t know what resonates.
Once you identify what attracts your audience, focus your energy on that type of content.
For example, if static posts about nature and animals align with your music and connect with your audience, triggering likes and shares, you’ve found a winning formula.
Visibility is the artist’s primary form of ownership. Social media is the path forward.
Consistency vs. Virality
While a viral post can grab attention, it’s not your ultimate goal. It’s easy to burn out by chasing virality. Instead, prioritize consistency to foster recognition.
Growth on platforms like Instagram is often misinterpreted. Many creators chase spikes—hoping for that one Reel to go viral and change everything overnight. Sometimes it does, but what matters more is what follows that spike. I rarely remember my viral posts and don’t dwell on the details, as dissecting their success doesn’t serve my interests. Remember, virality creates noise, while consistency creates lasting memory.
Consistently delivering the same message and tone establishes a strong foundation for your brand.
